Unity Is Power

We are more powerful when we stand together.

That is a fact. For every singular event and shining achievement, you can bet it took more than one individual to pull it off. Partnerships and collaboration have contributed to every transformative moment in history. It takes a team to leap beyond our singular abilities and requires a collective effort to start a transformative movement.

March on Washington

Since it just so happens to be Black History Month, let’s talk about one of the most crucial collective efforts in our history: the 1963 March on Washington. Without a doubt, civil rights legend and hero Martin Luther King Jr. was the guiding light of a movement that changed the nation. But even he didn’t put that event together on his own.

MLK was not the sole orchestrator of that momentous occasion. It was the product of passionate people working together to bring a dream to life. You may not have heard the name Bayard Rustin before, but behind the scenes, he played a critical part in conceptualizing and organizing the march.

Bayard’s ideas and his ability to bring the right people together were the real reasons the event was able to make the impact it did, still echoing across the generations. It was not just Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision. It was the vision of a community striving for equality and justice, pulled together by someone who knew that we are more powerful when we stand together.

The lesson is clear: none of us is an island. It takes more than a big idea to do big things. To make a real impact or to effect lasting change, we must stand together in our power. That principle holds true in all facets of life, work, and family.

Scientific Fact

When we look at breakthroughs in science, technology, and medicine, it’s rare that one person in a solitary lab is solely responsible. Most life-changing discoveries result from a massive collective effort: researchers, scientists, experts and assistants, and even the administrators who mind the phone lines and the email inbox.

Especially in the modern day, where everything is globalized, the free exchange of ideas, expertise, and perspective accelerates the path to innovation. Solving problems and making progress for the human race is best achieved through partnership.

Best Practice

New products and services hit the market every day. It can be daunting for businesses to keep up when the technology keeps evolving and the goalposts change. Organizations that recognize the strength of collaboration are best positioned to succeed.

By leveraging the knowledge and resources of skilled partners, companies can achieve goals that would be unattainable in isolation. These partnerships create synergy that enhances efficiency, fosters creativity, and opens doors to new opportunities.

The businesses that keep this front of mind have the best chance at success because we are more powerful when we stand together.

Be More Powerful

I always think of Black History Month as a call to action. This week, I invite you to consider what partnerships or collaborations might serve your needs. Which ones might serve the greater good? What do you want to accomplish that you cannot accomplish alone? Build your team and make it happen.

If overcoming barriers in your career is on that list, a coach can be the perfect collaborator to supercharge your climb to the top. Want to change the world or just your corner of it? Who has the shared vision and the time, talent, or treasure you need to make it happen?

Starting a movement? Who can be the Bayard Rustin to your MLK?

We are more powerful when we stand together. I will stand with anyone who is looking to make a positive change in the world. Have big plans? Call me and let’s talk!
