Frequently Asked Questions
At Ascentim, your questions are our concerns. Our goal is to make sure you are well informed. Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Coaching is a client-driven process that focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes, and managing personal change. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
We keep it simple here. At Ascentim, we describe coaching as a process that accelerates the journey from where you are now to where you really want to be.
No. Professional coaching is often confused with therapy, counseling, mentoring, training, or athletic development. Each of those are different professions with unique skillsets, qualifications, objectives, and outcomes.
My primary job is to help you discover and clarify what you really want to achieve so we can align your purpose with a powerful plan of action. I’ll foster your journey of self-discovery and encourage you to generate the solutions and strategies that make sense for you. Then I’ll help you stay on track by holding you accountable for your commitments. With passion, effort, and a sustained focus, you will make your ascent.
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the largest global member network of professional coaches, with over 30,000 members in 140 countries.
Anyone can call themselves a coach, but that doesn’t mean they are qualified.
An ICF-credentialed coach must meet a high standard of education and experience requirements. They must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the core coaching competencies that set the standard in the profession. Finally, every ICF member has pledged to adhere to a code of ethics.
Yes. There are a number of niche practice areas and coaching disciplines, and you will find that many of them overlap. According to recent a survey of professional coaches, most coaching practices fall under the following broad categories:
- Leadership (25%)
- Executive (18%)
- Business (16%)
- Life Vision & Enhancement (13%)
Our work here can best be described as life coaching. And our practice is rooted in Positive Psychology – the study of what it takes for people and communities to thrive. Our mission is to help you live the life that you dream of. We’ll be your partner in discovering who you are, what you value most, and what your purpose is. Then we will align your purpose, strengths, and passions with power and intention. The end result is that, ultimately, you love your life more than you ever dreamed you could.
We may focus on one or more of our three pillars.
At Ascentim, we believe that these three pillars are the cornerstone to success:
- Connections: Let’s build your personal board of advisors who will provide you with the help and support you need to thrive.
- Careers: Feeling stuck but ready to level up? Learn how to chart your own course as an impactful leader.
- Finances: Get organized, get out of debt, and walk in wealth for a life of freedom and abundance. You CAN do it!
Obviously, we’ll talk – a lot! But it’s talk with momentum and a reason behind everything we discuss. We’ll use tools like a written coaching agreement, assessments, and homework assignments to work on between meetings.
There will be an emphasis on powerful questions (that may elicit equally powerful responses) and accountability for agreed-upon actions. Finally, we’ll talk about results – your progress, your growth, and how to reach your maximum potential.
Coaching is a deeply personal process. It’s critical to find the right fit or it just won’t work. Schedule a consultation before making a commitment. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about the process and see if you feel comfortable with that person. Meet with 2 or 3 coaches to find out if there’s a connection with one of them.
You can ask just about anything! Be curious and stay open to the experience. Here are a few good starter questions to get you going, but it is by no means an exhaustive list:
- What is your coaching experience?
- What is your coach-specific training?
- What is your specialty?
- What types of individuals and/or businesses do you work with most often?
- What is your coaching philosophy?
- What can I expect during our first session together?
Currently, I am conducting all coaching sessions virtually by Zoom or phone.
A typical coaching session is 60 minutes but may take as long as 90 minutes. And, if you just need a quick chat to share a win or ask a pressing question, we can schedule a 10-minute “laser” call.
Coaching is an investment in yourself and it yields an incredible ROI. Benefits include personal and professional growth, improved confidence and communication skills, influence, authority, and more.
Your first consultation with Ascentim is always free. We have a range of options to suit your individual needs and budget. Choose from a single Power Coaching session ($595) and 3, 6, and 12-month packages. Ascentim offers convenient payment plans and discounts for paying in full.
An investment in coaching is ultimately an investment in yourself, your career, and the life of your dreams.
Yes! Most clients will find that one of our standard packages meets their needs, but we’re flexible. We know that every individual is unique and therefore we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. Need something different? Let’s discuss it.
